Foteini Tryferopoulou was born in Athens, Greece in 1995. She studied music theory, classical and electric guitar and classical piano in several conservatories in Athens. She holds a diploma in Music Theory by Y. Fakanas Art Music School.
Foteini studied Music at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with a specialisation in Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology. Her undergraduate thesis focuses on the relationships between, Music, Film and Gender.
During her time at the University of Athens, Foteini began composing electroacoustic music and worked with Anastasia Georgaki and Orestis Karamanlis. She was a member of the electronic/electroacoustic improv ensemble L.E.M.E. [live electronic music ensemble] and performed in festivals in Athens and the island of Tinos. In 2018 she started studying Electronic Music at Athens Conservatoire and the Contemporary Music Research Centre (KSYME), with composers Charis Xanthoudakis and Angelos Mitsios.
She completed an MPhil in Music and Media Technologies at Trinity College Dublin in 2020, where she studied under the supervision of composers Ann Cleare and Enda Bates among others. In 2020 she became a member of the Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association (HELMCA).
Foteini's music often combines found objects, soundscapes, synthesized sounds and acoustic instruments. She is interested in the exploration of the sonic possibilities of acoustic instruments and the relationships between sound and urban environments, music and language, the meeting of sonic and visual stimuli, the sound as a form of protest in a visual world, spatial audio and 3D sound, and, music and the expanding field of its performance.
Her music has been presented in multiple festivals and venues around Greece and abroad (e.g. the National Greek Opera, National Sawdust in NYC, Onassis Foundation USA, Koinono Art Gathering, Musa Festival, HELMCA's Electroacoustic Days), and she has collaborated with renowned musicians of contemporary art (e.g. Jeff Zeigler -Kronos Quartet-, Lucy DheGrae, Miranda Cuscon, Blair McMillen, Brandon Patrick George, Eric Umble, Christos Marinos and Ioanna Vrakatseli -Duo Vocialo-, Myrto Akrivou, Thalia Papadopoulou and Iro Menegou -Pythia Trio-)
